Eight19’s revolutionary IndiGo pay as you go solar enables users to purchase small solar home systems and step on the “energy escalator” that allows them to progressively upgrade to full home electrification over time or step off at any point.
Launched at the World Future Energy Summit 2012, the Kickstart fund is a new way of accelerating IndiGo deployments.
Kickstart accepts donations and loans from organisations or individuals. Managed by Eight19’s partner, the registered charity Solar Aid, Kickstart provides the working capital to deploy IndiGo units to rural African consumers. Unlike conventional funds, Kickstart is a Revolving Fund. Money is used to pay for the provision of IndiGo units but this money returns to the fund in the form of customers’ weekly scratchcard payments. Once the money is replenished, it can be repaid (if the original contribution was a loan) or used again to provide another IndiGo deployment. Kickstart is helping deploy thousands of solar lighting products throughout Africa with the aim of meeting the objective of eliminating kerosene for lighting in Africa by the end of the decade.
Help us to achieve this goal by supporting the Kickstart fund!
