IndiGo is an affordable solar lighting and battery charging system that brings low cost energy to off-grid communities. With IndiGo, users put credit on their solar cell, just as they would on a mobile phone. Power from the cell then charges the battery in the IndiGo box, making electricity available for lighting or charging other devices, such as mobile phones. This pay-as-you-go model makes it a uniquely affordable way to bring power for low-energy (LED) lighting and battery charging to homes, schools and workplaces in emerging markets.
IndiGo provides light for children to do their homework, enables stallholders to work after dark, and provides the energy to charge mobile phones or to power Internet connections.
IndiGo is secure because the units operates using top-up codes that are securely sent to owners’ mobile phones in the form of text messages. Without the codes, the system does not generate electricity.
The IndiGo 2.5W solar home lighting and charging system includes:
- A solar panel and IngiGo box containing a charge controller and battery
- An LED lamp
- An adapter lead for most popular mobile phones
- Connecting cables
- Two, one-day top-up cards
